README!.DOC This file
ICOMGM.DOC A text file describing the use of group windows to manage and install icons.
SUGGEST.DOC Suggested uses for a few of the less obvious icons
ICO_MB1.GRP Program Manager group with 49 icons installed
* Note - these are companion files to ICOMB2.ZIP, a file with 49 .ICO icon
files.
ICO_MB1.GRP is a group file that can be installed in the Windows 3.0 Program
Manager to preview the icons found in ICOMB2.ZIP. It's also a demonstration
of the icon management ideas in ICOMGM.DOC and a demo for custom icon designs
by the author.
Installing the icon group window
Copy the ICO_MB1.GRP file to your Windows subdirectory.
Then click on "File / New / Program Group" and for "Group File" type
"ICO_MB1.GRP". Leave the Description field blank. Click on "OK".
To see all the icons, maximize Program Manager, then maximize the icon group
(this will take a few seconds on slower machines). You can either use this
as a reference to the icons in ICOMB2.ZIP and install those icons normally,
or drag/copy icons to a new group window. For this to work, you need to do
the following:
Installing the .ICO files
Create a subdirectory on the same hard drive as the Windows subdirectory
called \ICO, and then one under it called \ICO\MB1.
Unzip the MBICO2.ZIP file, and move all the .ICO files in ICOMB1.ZIP to
\ICO\MB1.
If you want to be able to drag/copy icons for easy installation from the new
group window, use the method shown in "IV - Installing Icons" in the I
COMGM.DOC text file.
*** Note that some icons in ICOMB2.ZIP have names that may be the same as
other .ICO files you have - like "email.ico" - so be careful when copying
them so you don't overwrite any pre-existing icons.
*** Keep a copy of ICO_MB1.GRP somewhere other than the Windows subdirectory
so you can delete the group from the Program Manager File menu if you need the
room and reinstall it later to use an icon. Program Manager will delete the
.GRP file in the Windows subdirectory when you remove the group.
